Early one morning, Mufasa is awakened by his boisterous cub. From the edge of Pride Rock, father and son survey the vast pridelands. Mufasa confides that one day, his time will pass. Then it will be Simba's turn to be king.

A Treacherous Plan
Scar lays out his plans to his dimwitted cohorts, the hyenas. Unwilling to let Simba take the reins of power one day, Scar plans to kill both the young prince and Mufasa himself! Only then will Scar be able to rule the Pridelands.

A Break With The Past
Scar watches Mufasa fall to his death, uttering a contemptuous "Long Live the King!" Later, he comes upon Simba nestling his father's body and tells the cub the tragedy is his fault.

Timon and Pumbaa revive Simba at an oasis. His rescuers share their philosophy of life with the depressed cub, a philosophy summed up by the words "Hakuna Matata" - No Worries!
